DAY 2:
Our second organised trip to date. Our tour group of 24 adults and 1 young child toured around Dalat on a mini coach: Domain De Marie church, The Valley of Love, XQ hand embroidery, tea and dried fruit tasting, Bao Dai Palace, Datanla waterfall and Truc Lam meditation monastery.
It was good to see what Dalat had to offer, but the downside to organised tours is you're governed to how long you spend at each place. For both of we spent too long at The Valley of Love, not enough time in the embroidery place and found the palace a waste of time! For most of the day it was raining hard, so the waterfall and monastery were just quick photos and back to the coach. We were also supposed to take a cable car over the valley but was cancelled due to the rain. All in all the tour was ok, nothing more - but for 5 pounds each for 7 hours we shouldn't complain!
The Valley of Love.....
A couple of embroidered pictures
Mrs F showing off the fetching shoes covers that had to be worn for the palace
Mr F later complained off fluid in his ear!
We went back to the V-Bar that night having being told a blue/jazz band would be playing. But after ordering our food, we were told the band are in Cambodia!
VERDICT OF DALAT:
Mr F: Pretty in places but can't really see what all the fuss is about...that's it!
Mrs F: Not very often The Lonely Planet gets things wrong, but on this occasion, Dalat was definaltey overrated in the book.
DALAT to NHA TRANG:
Keeping to our travelers budget and traditional means of getting around, we took the mini coach 4hrs from Dalat to Nha Trang. The journey was scarey being mainly on the mountain top roads with the driver over taking on bends at speed and taking corners as though driving a coupe! The views the whole way however were stunning, showing Vietnam in all íts true glory - much like the first part of the Everest trek.
View from where we stopped for a break....
